RITA
RANCH REAL ESTATE FOR SALE
TUCSON, ARIZONA 85747

The story goes that the area that has now become the
planned community of Rita Ranch was named for the actress Rita Hayworth
by Howard Hughes who owned vast areas of the Tucson valley and who
was in love with the red haired movie star of the 40’s and
50’s. True or not, Rita Ranch is a planned community in the
southeast part of Tucson that began to be developed in the 1980’s.
According to the Tucson MLS, Rita Ranch homes for sale are made up
of 2, 3, 4 and occasional 5 bedroom homes that range in price from
the low $100,000’s to over $200,000. There are one and two
story homes and each subdivision has its own rules in regard to such
items as recreational vehicles.
One of our dear friends, Jean and her husband, who were among the
first to live in the area called it “the wilderness” as
there were homes but nothing else. It took almost ten years to have
the shopping necessary for further growth. Today there are two major
supermarkets and dozens of smaller stores, shops, restaurants, fast
food, banks and drug stores, etc.
Vail Unified School District 13801 E Benson Hwy Vail, AZ 85641-9074
(520) 762-5577 has tried (sometimes in
vain) to keep ahead of the growing demand for classrooms. The Vail
schools are very popular with parents as they are very progressive
in the educational techniques. Additionally Vail school are under
a modified year around program which has worked extremely well.
Youth sports are very popular and there are often several games being
played in Purple Heart Park. The community pool is also located in
the park. One of Tucson’s very few skateboard parks is here
as well. And, Tucson itself is less than 10 miles away.
Due to the increased traffic on Houghton Road, which is a major artery
from northeast Tucson to I-10 runs through Rita Ranch. Major road
work plans that were set in place several years ago are now in the
works. It’s a huge project which is planned well out into the
2020’s as it will widen most of Houghton Road north of the
freeway.
It was Rita Ranch that brought attention to the otherwise ignored
southeast part of Tucson thus advancing the areas of Corona de Tucson
and Vail.
