Arizona
Opera Company - Tucson Convention Center Music Hall
Started in Tucson in 1972 by a small but eagerly dedicated group of
lovers of the opera, the Arizona Opera Company presented patrons with
high quality grand opera. Internationally renowned singers and conductors
come every year.
Initially they used the facilities at the Tucson Convention Center
Music Hall. It wasn’t long before they began performing in Phoenix
as well as in Tucson and shortly thereafter, they had fully staffed
offices in both cities.
Educational outreach is one of the many goals they have met through
going to schools and meetings to encourage an interest in the performing
arts.
Arizona Opera currently produces a five opera season, with three performance
dates in Tucson at the TCC Music Hall and four performances at Symphony
Hall in Phoenix. To the dancers, they have added the Arizona Opera Orchestra
and the Opera Chorus with talent coming from around the world.
Tucson's largest performance venue is the Tucson Convention Center
Music Hall, the Arizona Opera Company home at 260 South Church Avenue.
The season runs October through March with performances Friday through
Sunday matinee performances.
